How to choose the size of a motorcycle helmet?

2024-03-14

Nowadays, when riding a motorcycle, it is necessary to wear a motorcycle helmet for safety reasons. Choosing a good motorcycle helmet is very important as it can better protect personal safety in the event of an unfortunate accident. Below are some tips for choosing motorcycle helmets.

(1) The inner side of the helmet must be equipped with an impact pad, and the surface pad material that matches the head is a thin mesh lining cloth, which should have the function of absorbing sweat and head grease. In addition, there should be ventilation slots with a depth of at least 10mm on the padding to allow air circulation inside the helmet.

(2) The chin strap should be soft, and the buckle and other hard protrusions should not exceed the external surface by 5mm.

(3) Wearing a helmet should provide a light and comfortable feeling, and the weight of the helmet should not exceed 2KG.

(4) Helmets should be unobstructed, not stuffy, have a clear and open field of view, without obstruction, and have a field of view angle of no less than 105 degrees in a stationary state.

(5) When wearing a helmet, you can clearly hear and distinguish sounds from all directions, and there should be no vibration or other noise during driving.

(6) The interior of the helmet should have good ventilation and insulation, and be dustproof, insect proof, waterproof, etc.

(7) Helmets should have good reflectivity and heat radiation resistance, highlighting prominent and eye-catching colors.

(8) The helmet windshield lenses are clear and colorless, with resilience that is not easily broken, to ensure that the driver's vision is not affected.

(9) The helmet material should be made of fiberglass laminated structure.

In general, when choosing a helmet, the first thing to consider is the burden on the neck when wearing it, and to feel its weight while maintaining balance in the body. The balance of a helmet is important because the closer the center of gravity of the helmet is to the center of gravity of the head, the less likely it is to fatigue. So, what matters is not the weight of the helmet itself, but the balance performance of the helmet.

From the perspective of safety, when the helmet is strongly impacted, the soft foam spacer inside the helmet can prevent the impact from hurting the head. Some damaged helmets have three or four collision marks almost at the same location. Regarding the breathability of helmets, ventilation devices are not installed near the opening of the protective cover of the helmet itself, but rather on the body of the protective cover, mainly to maximize the protective range of the helmet in case of impact.
